Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Corporate Controller to join our team in San Diego.  In this role, you will lead our accounting and operations functions and oversee a broad area including accounting, financial reporting, insurance, tax, facilities and I.T.. This is an opportunity to join and help build a team in an emerging biotechnology company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct day to day financial and accounting functions: accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, cost accounting, revenue recognition, fixed assets, month-end closings, bank and general ledger reconciliations.

  • Establish and maintain the organization's accounting principles, practices and procedures. Ensure adequate financial controls exist, and develop all required processes and documentation for a SOX audit.

  • Prepare financial statements and reporting in accordance with GAAP.  Develop analytics and variance analysis for trending and to identify risks.

  • Manage third party professional firms, including auditors, banking, lending and legal relationships.

  • Manage and oversee internal operational functions including but not limited to facilities, I.T., vendors, suppliers and other non-lab related areas.

  • Work with executive management to communicate actual performance to plan.  Provide strategic insight and recommendations for improved results.

  • Partner with leadership in strategic decision making, resource allocation and financial operations. 

  • Manage the overall operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities of the department. Make decisions that are financially responsible, accountable and justifiable.

Qualifications:

  • BA degree in Accounting or Finance; Advanced degree preferred. CPA required.

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience with increasing responsibilities, including a strong focus on general accounting, SEC reporting, systems optimization, job costing, and reporting systems required.

  • Experience with biotech/tech venture backed industry and public company experience required.

  • Experienced, well-rounded finance leader with people management experience in a small organization required.

  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a subject matter expert to the organization's management team that provides leadership and direction.

  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and judgment with a detailed but flexible approach. Ability to make sound, scalable, decisions and create clear processes.

  • Self-motivated individual with a record of achievement through past industry experience.

  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of financial and accounting software systems desired.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and desire to work cross-functionally.

This position is based onsite from our offices in San Diego.
